Vauxhall underground and mainline station being just a few minutes’ walk away enabling access to all of London’s business and financial districts as well as the Eurostar at St Pancras and all of London’s international airports. The areas redevelopment, spawning new businesses and a lively buzz ensures that Parliament House attracts variety of buyers from owner occupiers seeking a wise investment and landlords looking for an assured let.
A History of Parliament House
Developed by Telford Homes, Parliament House is situated on the historic Black Prince Road which is named after the first Duke of Cornwall, Son of Edward III. The Duke was awarded much of the land in the area becoming part of the extensive Duchy Estate. To this day The Duke of Cornwall (HRH The Prince of Wales) still owns some small tracts of land in the area, including the world famous Oval Cricket Ground which has been leased out to Surrey County Cricket Club since the days when Lambeth was actually part of Surrey.
Traditionally Albert Embankment and the Black Prince Road were fairly industrial areas as of course access to the river was a key consideration for any business. Most famously perhaps was the Doulton Pottery Factory a gloriously decorated building with lots of florid ornamentation which is still in situ actually next to the Parliament House development.
Doulton was (and still is) a highly covetable pottery firm. One of it’s most impressive works being a 6ft tall faience vase. Painted by Florence Lewis one of the studios most respected and skilled artists a single vase was initially made purely as a showpiece. A second vase (and a spare) was commissioned by an Indian Maharajah in the late 19th Century and are believed to be the world’s largest vases.
Those who like their ‘Florence’s’ a bit more contemporary, musician and singer Florence Welsh lives in the area so fans of her music may enjoy hanging out in the nearby pubs and restaurants in the hope of spotting her.
In fact whatever your cultural taste, whether it be 19th Century pottery or contemporary pop music there is something to entertain everyone all within a few minutes walking distance of Parliament House and Albert Embankment. Tate Britain on the opposite bank of the Thames houses some of Britain’s finest pre 20th century artwork while the Gasworks studios just around the corner on Vauxhall Street is home to a number of up and coming artists working in a variety of media.
Living & Investing In Parliament House
In developing Parliament House, Telford Homes brought onboard award winning, local architects Rolfe Judd. The interior finish is meticulous and features Villeroy & Boch bathroom suites, touch release kitchen cabinets, mood lighting and under-floor heating. The effect is one of streamlined elegance that is in-keeping with the floor to ceiling windows and full height doors.
The white walls and neutral flooring provides a light-filled, spacious blank canvas for occupiers to express their personalities. Residents of Parliament House are sure to do exactly that as the development is most likely to interest stylish, confident purchasers who know their own taste and appreciate the opportunity to own an apartment in this burgeoning area of London.
As well as porterage services, private resident’s gym, Parliament House has a unique wow factor not seen in many other developments, a resident’s roof terrace with views of the River Thames towards the Houses of Parliament. High above the skyline the private terrace offers residents the opportunity to entertain friends and guests to relax and socialise. Of course it is also hoped that residents will also take advantage of getting to know their neighbours in this stunning communal setting.
Parliament House & Beyond
Albert Embankment is undergoing a fantastic period of rapid change and development with new businesses, bars and restaurants all being planned to open in the immediate future. However the aptly named local pub, the Zeitgeist, got there first, and has become a well-established meeting place for residents and local business clientele. Perhaps not surprisingly, Zeitgeist is a German bar and as such attracts a lively and very friendly crowd of German speakers and multi-lingual socialites in general.
This cosmopolitan vibe continues throughout the area as Vauxhall is well known for its mix of gay and straight bars and clubs. Perhaps most famously, The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a gay pub that hosts some of the country’s best cabaret and drag acts.
Those seeking more traditional cultural experiences have only to wander up to London’s South Bank where a number of world famous venues can be found including the Royal Festival Hall which has a varied programme of music and lectures.
While the Albert Embankment continues to establish itself, immediately over the river are many of London’s finest restaurants and shopping areas. Bond Street is just a short taxi ride away as is the Kings Road and Sloane Square. All of which offer world class retail outlets, Michelin starred restaurants and popular brassieres such as the achingly hip Colbert.
